Maximizing Productive Energy

Maximizing the productive energy of individuals in any organization is a determining factor for its success and longevity.  In all organizations there exists losses of energy that directly impact the quantity of effort that individuals actually apply to their core work and which cost thousands of dollars of potential profit of the organization each year.  In North American companies these losses have been termed "productive energy losses".  Rabbani Consulting works to help you minimize these losses.

What are "productive energy losses"?

Productive energy losses are all of the losses that keep your business or organization from operating at peak performance. They are the wasted energy and efforts that result from conflict or people focusing time and energy on things that are negatively impacting them and their performance. These losses are usually associated with inefficient work processes or systems, poor communication, redundancies, poor morale, or bad team dynamics. These losses directly impact the amount of effort that individuals apply toward their core work (vs. achieving the goals of the organization) and cost businesses millions of dollars in revenue every year.

What are examples of "productive energy losses"?
Examples of productive energy losses can be found in all the diversions that individuals use to get through the day because of not feeling or being fully engaged or in the time people spend agonizing or venting about the conflicts they see or perceive around them.  Some examples are:

  • Being a barrier to change
  • Constantly complaining about how bad the environment is
  • Back-biting and gossiping about co-workers
  • Complaining about how bad the boss is
  • Working on non-business related items while at work
  • Feeling undervalued or unappreciated
  • Why does my boss treat me this way?
  • Why do co-workers behave this way or that way?
  • Why does this department constantly do that?
  • Am I valued?
  • Is my diversity accepted?

What are the symptoms of "productive energy losses" and how can they really hurt our business?
Here are some symptoms of environments where productive energy losses are high and what it costs the organization:

  • Unwanted attrition or regrettable turnover
  • Employee morale problems
  • Lack of motivation or engagement
  • Diversity sensitivity problems
  • Lawsuits, conflicts & grievances
  • Lack of teamwork
  • Redundant systems or buffers

Where do these losses manifest themselves?
They manifest themselves in environments where:

  • De-empowering or ineffective systems are frustrating the work of the organization.
  • Empowering behaviors that fully engage people in carrying out the work of the organization are missing.
  • Leaders are not aware of the "perceptions" and "realties" that they create through their actions, sensitivities, or lack thereof.

There are specific things that leaders can do to minimize any of these losses, but most environments don't teach about them. This is where we can be of service.
